I'm really smitten with the matching top/short trend. It's like wearing opulent pajamas around town! Plus, I love any outfit that can wear heels and Converse interchangeably. And with homegirls purchasing their swag from Topshop and Zara, the price is certainly right.

MUSIC VID: WE CAN'T STOP
I'm not gonna lie, I'm totally smitten with Miley Cyrus's new edgy look. Everyone is free to make radical changes while they're growing up, and girlfriend looks great! That being said, I'm kinda mesmerized by her new music video. (I wasn't too crazy about the song when I heard it on the radio, but I'm one of those people who's opinion can be wildly influenced for better or worse by the music video.) Being a twerkin' Former Disney Star takes some fucking guts, then she backs it up with completely flawless & luscious make-up and hot dogs falling out of piñatas. It's got #lifegoals written all over it! Plus, I really want one of those "Dope" t-shirt bodysuits--someone make that for me!

BOUDOIR GOLD
In my Ideal Bestie World, I purchase this bed-set from Feliz for Hilary. (I also somehow manage to send her Chris Traeger, too.) It's got the swagger of gold (homegirl's favorite color) but the sweetness of a starry night. At least the pillow cases are somewhat reasonable!

JACKETS: J. CREW EDITION
(All from J. Crew: shop here.)
Summer in Texas is not a good time to explore jackets, but it's something I'm bookmarking for the fall. What Not To Wear, one of my favorite shows, preaches the power of the blazer but I've always been more of a cardigan girl. So note to self: once temperatures drop, try to find a fitted blazer and a sporty jacket. J. Crew is always on point, and I'm especially in love with the Ikat blazer. (Maybe by the time it cools down here, these will be on sale!)

VICTORIA BECKHAM
(all here)
Victoria Beckham is so fucking perfect, and I'm not getting over it any time soon. Long ago are the days of orange skin and severe 90s bob! This century, she's rocking amazing colors, dramatic proportions, and clean lines that not only inspire my office wardrobe (ideals, guys!) but also my casual sensibility (mini skirts and wedges with a toddler in tow). Don't ever stop, girlfriend!

GURL, CHECK OUT THESE NAILS
I Heart Nail Art is an Etsy shop that specializes in really insufferable nail-art stickers that I have not been able to stop thinking about. All you have to do is cut them down, dip them in water, apply to the nails, file down, and coat with clear nail polish. Five simple steps, and then Marie Antoinette's beautiful face will be on your fingers. Plus, the sets come with enough stickers for 2-3 manicures. Give this girl a Nobel Peace Prize right now!
I mean, seriously: Rothko? ROTHKO.

KELLY OXFORD A LA COVETEUR
Let's face it: Kelly Oxford is a force. She's hilarious, insightful, has a beautiful/hilarious family, and has a love of fashion that is the definition of opulence. I knew we had similar sensibilities when I saw this tweet, and after her profile on The Coveteur I had to reevaluate all my basic life choices.
Below are some of my favorite pieces from her spread. (She also has an amazing story about finding a Marni dress for $120 that will fuel any religious online-shopper!) "My personal style revolves around being comfortable, but I have a magpie eye, so I buy a lot of loud things." Um, say girl, let's be best friends. And can I borrow that Stella McCartney skirt?

LIFE IMPROVEMENTS
I'm always one for self-evaluation and lists. Honestly, those are two of the things I'm best at. Recently, I noticed I was getting kinda bummed in non-specific ways, and life wasn't as AMAAAZING as I know it can be, so I looked around and noticed there were some things I could try differently. Pretty small things, but when you add them all up it's like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Nothing makes me feel more glamourous than just being plain happy. :)
1. Stop being a news-junkie. See also: anxiety-junkie. I used to watch "The Daily Show" all the time and listen to NPR in the morning and all the time in my car. Being informed meant being classy! But, I'm also cynical as fuck, and I would get super depressed listening to all the terrible things going on in the world and feeling hopeless thinking about how I could help. But honestly, I've felt so much lighter and happier ever since I've stopped tuning into global headlines all the time. Isn't that kind of terrible? It is, but I own it. I'm just too passionate of a person, and I can't half-ass my enthusiasm, so it's better for me to channel that into things that are happy. The Big Picture is great, and I love the Big Picture and My Fellow Man, but I realized absorbing all the terrible news crippled me from doing simple things that life is really about like watching TCM and spending quality goofing-off time with my step-kids.
Note: I mean, I still want to be generally informed, so I subscribed to theSkimm, and it's really great!
2. Eat what I want when I want it. I love food, and I love healthful food. I wouldn't call myself vegan, but I eat mostly vegan (my family calls me a "Kylie-vore," which is adorable and accurate), so my indulgences are things like dates and peaches and fresh cucumber in my water. Basically, I like to feed myself like I'm at a classy spa or cafe. Fresh salads, cantaloupe, little cubes of cheese with cherry tomatoes... these things make me really happy, and I really amuse myself snacking all the time because the combinations are as delightful as they are endless. ("Ooh, for this snack, I'll have honey-coated pecans and a small fruit smoothie! Now I'll have some roasted sweet potatoes and some avocado toast!") I used to feel like a failure if I wasn't planning/executing/eating 3-course meals that my boyfriend loved as well. But fuck, I'm so emotionally exhausted all the time that I need food that I can throw together and be happy to eat whenever. 3-course meals can be for eating out, and my boyfriend is a grown-ass man who can feed himself. I'm taking care of me.
3. Embrace change. If you can't tell from "enjoys self-evaluation and lists," I really love routines! Routines are wonderful, but they can also be crazy mental traps that make you really narrow-minded. Change is the ultimate spice of life, and I've stopped feeling like a lost 5-year-old when something new happens. ("What does it mean!? Who am I?! Have my core values changed?!" Really.) I used to love a glass of wine or whiskey after work, but I'm not really feeling that any more. I used to not want to shave my legs every day, but now it has to happen. Sometimes my boyfriend and I talk all the time, and sometimes we don't. I had my hair super long for 10 years, and I just cut it all off because I really wanted to! Whatever it is, going with the flow and not categorizing long-term repercussions to every little thing has made me much more confident and joyful.
4. Not being so offended all the time. This is super embarrassing, but I really would get offended if my friends/family didn't respond to a little text or if my boyfriend would say something weird. Not like a spoiled Beverly Hills teenager, but more of a manic ball of nerves who would over-analyze everything. EW. Once I made the conscious choice to let little things go, I notice I actually communicate more with the people I love. All of our hearts are in the right place, we all share the same values, and we're certainly not out to belittle one another, so what's the point in zeroing in on a little comment or criticism? My down-time is really valuable, and I'm not going to spend it feeling bad for myself. I'm too awesome for that, and I'd rather spend time being awesome.
5. Watch a lot of "Parks and Recreation." All the time. When I'm getting ready in the morning and before I go to bed. I'm watching it right now as I type this! I just makes me happy so, whatevahhh!
I feel like this is worth repeating: being happy is glamourous. Feeling bummed and gross is necessary sometimes because it can force you to change something for the better. Right now I'm in a tangible Up-Swing, and I just want to ride it as lonnng as possible. :)

INSATIABLE THIRST FOR MAXI DRESSES
Anthropologie is a really upsetting place full of perfect clothing that is outside of a college girl's price range. I was there this past weekend and found this gorgeous thing. I love florals on black. I love delicate straps. I love love love maxi dresses!
Living in Texas in the summertime is a nightmare for everyone but especially for anyone trying to look even a little nice. Maxi dresses have been my salvation. If you buy the right maxi dress it makes you look somehow more statuesque. If you buy the right maxi dress you don't have to wear a bra with it! Maxi dresses and pasties. That's been my summer survival strategy. My birthday's coming up--maybe someone will help me add this one to my collection!
(And by the way, Kylie obsessively shops Anthro's sales racks, which is a great option for those of us who have a budget!)

UGH, THIS JACKET.
I saw this Pencey jacket twice on two of my favorite blawgs within two months, and it kinda kills me. It's like it's actually following me around the internet taunting me! ("Taunting" is a bold word choice, but I stick by it.) The shade of pink, whimsical pattern, tom-boy-ish cut... I'm just waiting for see Beyonce or Mindy Kaling wear it to officially throw myself overboard. Myself, I'm more prone to pair it with some chunky ripped jeans or a simple skinny pencil skirt.
Silver Lining: Jesus obviously wants me to have it I'm still thinking about it (Truth), so I'll take the summer months to prowl around for a Perfect Something-Similar inspired for the fall (since the Texas humidity makes anything in a sateen fabric sound positively revolting right now, anyway).

SHUT UP, JENNIFER!
I think Jennifer Lawrence went to Cannes just to mock me.
"Hey, Kylie! Can you wear peplum? Check out this rad strapless neckline! Look how bitchin' my short hair-do is! Did you know I'm the new face of Dior? Do you remember what an adorable human being I am?"
Oh, and that colorful detailing is just Andy Warhol's Femme Head 1958. NBD.
Ugh, love her.

I FINALLY WATCHED "ZERO DARK THIRTY"

(image via)
During our stacaytion, my boyfriend and I watched "Zero Dark Thirty," because it's our right to wait for film to come out through Netflix. Jessica Chastain is a beautiful angel among us, so I really appreciate the opportunity to stare at her beautiful angel face for over 2 hours. Plus, the entire rest of the movie was really good--!
The film follows elements of the bin Laden manhunt since the 9/11 attacks. Maya (Chastain) is a CIA agent who has been working on the case for her entire career, and we get to watch her be super beautiful and strong and amazing as well as make the connection to bin Laden's final hideout (which leads to the takedown by SEAL Team 6).
I'm not into war movies at all (because I prefer not to stress the hell out in my downtime!), but I remained intrigued for several reasons: 1. As Ebert said, the main plot is "Maya thinks she's right and she is," and lawd knows I love me some genius cock-sure female characters! 2. Kathryn Bigelow directed it, and she's a real-life beautiful BAMF who directs war films. 3. The fact that the Maya character is known to exist and has to be kept secret/protected (INTRIGUE). 4. Andy from "Parks and Rec" has a small part. (Squee!)
So, basically watch this movie for Jessica Chastain's beautiful angel face and stay because you actually enjoy it and are proud of yourself for liking a war/action movie that boys like, too. And to keep everything from feeling too lusty (Chastain!) or serious (I mean, it's a manhunt movie), enjoy this drinking game we played the whole time!
Drink when...
- Anyone says "bin Laden" in any language.
... and you're done! Enjoy!
OR, if you're more into combinations, drink when...
- There is a title card.
- Maya wears a wig or head scarf (doubles for both!)
- Anyone says "fuck" (or any variation thereof)
But don't do both games at the same time. Don't turn this review into me being a bad influence.

RIHANNA
(Images saved on my laptop and I don't remember where I got them--
I'll get better at this! Sorry!)
Rihanna is kind of killing it! I love her in more classic, luxe looks that she adds an edge to with statement jewelry, pieces with a more surprising or casual cut, and killer shades. I'll be doing sit-ups forever until I can wear a crop top under a fur-trimmed jacket!

STAYCATION INSPIRATION
This week, my boyfriend and I are taking time off work for a much needed 'stay-cation.' Just a pure week of lazin', grazin', and being awesome (probably some gratuitous Instagram pictures, too). I'm so excited! Here's to the little things and relishing in what it's all about. :)

OPULENCE: 2013 MET GALA EDITION
The Costume Institute Benefit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art never fails to provide a feast for the eyes. While I, like any Disciple of Fashion, adore the outlandish freedom the event has cultivated over the years, I also appreciate the looks that are just plain lovely. "Punk: From Chaos to Couture" was admittedly a challenging theme to adhere to (without being begrudgingly obvious--safety pins! plaid! spike belts!) which made me appreciate even the most subtle of interpretations more fully. Below are my favorite looks from this year's event...
Christina Ricci in Vivienne Westwood, Katy Perry in Dolce & Gabbana, and Carey Mulligan in Balenciaga by Alexander Wang.
Gwen Stefani in Maison Martin Margiela, Nina Dobrev in Monique Lhuiller, and Diane Kruger in Chanel Haute Couture.

SPOILS: LASHES EDITION
You know how Sephora sends you a ton of free samples? I got a baby tube of Lancome’s Hypnose mascara as a sample and I have never been the same. It’s like they know that the time it takes me to upgrade all my eyelash standards is five minutes and then it’s goodbye, drugstore mascara! Goodbye, name brand but still affordable mascara! Hello, hottie French girl lashes that I can’t believe are mine!
The great thing about these kinds of products is they’re good enough to make up for my lack of know-how. I don’t know how to separate my lashes or whether to start from the inside or the outside and I’m not a steady hand with eyeliner. (In fact, I’ve completely given up on ever having perfect eyeliner.) This mascara will give you thick, full lashes quickly and easily. You don’t have to wait and reapply multiple times. It is super buildable and doesn’t clump.
I have long lashes, but they’re not very thick and they are blonde and invisible without mascara. Over the last month, I have been asked twice if I was wearing false lashes, and if there’s a better feeling than blithely telling someone they’re all mine, why would I wear falsies to the office anyway!, I sure don’t know about it.

KYLIE'S SUMMER WARDROBE INSPO
Maxi dresses are such an easy, endless default during the killer summer months (singular piece! acceptable to wear bra-less! go great with sandals!). I've done it myself for the past 3 or 4 years, but now I'm starting to lean more towards mix-and-match pieces that are stylish, easy, and (let's face it) tolerable to sweat profusely in. #Texas.
Skin-tight pencil skirts, easy tops, minimal accessories, simple heels, natural disaster hair.
Floppy hats, breezy blouses, cut-off denim, strappy heels.
(via 5 inch and up)
Bra-tops, Grease-inpired leggings, killer pumps, loose curls.
Fun, light-weight button-ups, structured shorts, statement jewelry, easy up-dos.

WANT: KATE SPADE POPSICLE COIN PURSE
I've really never felt the compartmental need for a coin purse, but I would totally make way for one of Kate Spade's latest arrivals. Ugh, so cute.

SOUNDTRACK LUST
So, I'm basically dying for "The Great Gatsby" soundtrack. Dying. DYING. Give it to me now!
The full soundtrack isn't set to drop until May 7th (5 TORTUROUS DAYS), but thankfully the lead Lana Del Rey single and this "Crazy In Love" jazz remix has been released to appease me. I'm so smitten!
CRITICAL UPDATE: Commenter Jessica just informed me the entire soundtrack is available to stream on NPR. Bless-ed internet!
